The Moores School of Music announces “Napoleon and the Battle of Nations” CONCERT CHORALE

The Moores School of Music proudly announces “Napoleon and the Battle of Nations” with the CONCERT CHORALE directed by Betsy Cook Weber and MERCURY, the orchestra redefined directed by Antoine Plante featuring soprano Melissa Givens, mezzo-soprano Sara Mesko, tenor Zachary Wilder, bass-baritone Michael Sumuel and musicologist Jeffrey Sposato.  The concert and symposium commemorate the 200th anniversary of Napoleon’s defeat at the Battle of Nations on October 8, 1813.

On Thursday, November 21, 4 pm In the Dudley Recital Hall, we present a symposium featuring Jeffrey Sposato (Moores School) Bailey Stone (History), and Hildegard Glass (Modern and Classical Languages) team up with Leipzig historian Anselm Hartinger (Landesmuseum Stuttgart) to examine the 1813 Battle of Nations, a critical turning point in the Napoleonic Wars, and its impact on musical life in early 19th-Century Leipzig. The admission is free.

On Thursday, November 21, 6 pm in the Dudley Recital Hall, the Concert Chorale will perform the substantial choral portions of these important works. The admission is free.

On Saturday, November 23, 8 pm at the Wortham Center, Cullen Theater, the Concert Chorale will perform with MERCURY, the orchestra redefined directed by Antoine Plante featuring soprano Melissa Givens, mezzo-soprano Sara Mesko, tenor Zachary Wilder, bass-baritone Michael Sumuel.
